About us
RCS of England is a professional body for surgery. Our mission is to build the future of the surgical profession and improve the delivery of surgical care. We do this through education, training, examinations, supporting surgical research and audit/evaluation.

About the role

The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) is looking for an experienced colleague to co-Chair their newly formed Expert Advisory Network. Generously supported by B.Braun Medical Ltd, this is an exciting initiative for the RCS that will launch in spring 2020.

The Network aims to give individuals across multiple industries and specialisms the opportunity to become part of a community of like-minded colleagues that will help to guide the future of surgical education through new research, innovation and the evolving advances in technology. In addition to contributing to group discussion, members of the network will have the opportunity to guide educational research and innovation at the RCS by forming part of a structured working group to progress and test technology and theory.

We are looking for an experienced Chairperson that can bring their experience, insight and expertise from a non-surgical background to challenge ideas and help shape discussion and themes to focus our future direction

The work of the Network will be exceptionally important to the RCS and will support in shaping our future educational programme ensuring that the RCS stays at the forefront of technology, innovation and surgical education working towards creating a safe environment for patients and for future proofing the careers of our members.

The Expert Advisory Network will be co-Chaired by Richard Kerr and managed by the RCS. The Network will be steered by the overarching strategy of the RCS Learning Committee, to which the network will feed its outputs, recommendations and significant findings.

This role will be non-remunerated but will pay agreed expenses. The group will come together up to 4 times per year with a mixture of face-to-face and virtual attendance. The network will be encouraged to engage in forum discussion outside of the meetings and working groups will form outside of the forums to progress identified research or proof of concept projects.

This role will be supported by co-Chair, Richard Kerr and whilst the role may be required to undertake reviews and input into content and discussion, the main focus will be strategic. The co-Chair is required to attend at least 3 meetings in person per year and to work outside of the meetings reviewing articles and activities. The Chair must be available to consider other issues on an ad-hoc basis outside of the meetings.
