Job description

The Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI), School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen's University Belfast (QUB) offers an exciting Research Fellowship in the area of millimetre-wave compressive radar systems and computational imaging. The successful candidate will be an active member of a wider community, contributing to world leading research outputs and completely new research initiatives in the broader area of radar hardware development and antenna design for millimetre-wave computational imaging radar systems. 

The position is offered within the "Developing Solutions to Acute Threats: Compressive Imaging for Real-Time Security Screening" project funded by the Leverhulme Trust Research Leadership programme. 

This research at QUB will focus on (i) developing radar hardware for computational imaging at millimetre-wave frequencies, (ii) designing compressive, sparse millimetre-wave antenna topologies to compress the back-scattered radar measurements, and (iii) implementing real-time data acquisition algorithms on target hardware. This research will develop the next-generation compressive millimetre-wave radar technology with real-time radar scanning capabilities for security-screening applications. The outcomes of this research will be particularly important as conventional radars use an excessive number of channels with very large datasets being acquired for imaging, resulting in rather slow data acquisition times. Successful implementation of this technology will transform the state of the art in millimetre-wave security radars and ensure the safety of the public.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have or shortly expect to obtain a PhD in Electrical/Electronic engineering or Physics. 
  • Have solid knowledge in radar systems and experience in radar system development and/or antenna design for imaging radars. RF design, publishing and presenting are essential requirements.
