Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders

The University of Greenwich is investing in research across the institution.  As part of this, we are recruiting high-quality, independent early career Research Fellows to partner existing research groups, who will develop their academic careers with us. Successful candidates will be appointed for a period of three years. Subject to satisfying performance criteria and budgetary constraints, it is anticipated that these Fellows will transition into academic posts at the end of the Fellowship period.

Faculty of Education, Health and Human Sciences

Institute for Lifecourse Development

As part of significant long-term plan to build internationally leading research and teaching in the Faculty, we have created a new multi-professional and multidisciplinary Institute for Lifecourse Development. The Institute will work with our extensive network of external partners to focus our interdisciplinary expertise on applied aspects of cognition & learning from early childhood to adult learning, and on supporting mental health and wellbeing throughout a person's life . The Institute will be a key anchor resource where professionals, researchers and stakeholders from public, charitable and voluntary organisations can work together to develop effective and lifecourse solutions and tackle the grand challenges society faces though effective research, training and practice. The successful applicant will work with our existing staff to build on the interdisciplinary expertise in the faculty, particularly within the disciplines of Psychology, Health, Social Care and Education.

You will be working with a range of high-quality researchers under the leadership of Prof Rosana Pacella, Dr Damian Poulter, Prof Paul McCrone, and Professor Derek Moore (r.pacella@gre.ac.ukD.R.Poulter@greenwich.ac.ukP.McCrone@greenwich.ac.ukD.G.Moore@gre.ac.uk)

We are specifically looking for researchers whose interests and expertise lie in areas relevant to mental health and/or thinking and learning and who would work closely with experienced colleagues in either of the two Centres below.

The Centre for Thinking and Learning (led by Dr Damian Poulter) where we already have expertise in applied cognitive science and education in order to enhance the impact of our research and partnerships on policy and practice relating to thinking and learning across the lifespan. Members of the centre have specialisation in a range of fields, including applied cognitive and behavioural psychology (including perception, memory, face recognition, skill learning, personality, etc.) teacher and primary education (including literacy, maths etc.), and adult nursing and paramedic science amongst others.

The Centre for Mental Health (Centre lead TBC) focuses on research into understanding and supporting mental health and wellbeing throughout a person's life. Areas of research will include:

  • Perinatal mental health
  • Early years mental health including educational transitions
  • Adolescent mental health and transition to adulthood
  • Understanding inequalities in access to services
  • Lifestyle choices that impact on mental health
  • Interface between physical health and mental health
  • Mental health promotion at a population level
  • Clinical and economic evaluation of specific interventions to improve mental health and wellbeing.

  • Contact your Faculty/School or Director of the Institute for Lifecourse Development to discuss your research aspirations, using the named contact details provided above.
