You will take responsibility for elements of this well-established programme, and work on the development of the new distance learning version to further enhance the reputation of our postgraduate offer.  As a researcher within the Department, you would have access to a wide range of research resources, including: DEXA body composition scanner, 3DMD photogrammetry body scanner, 14-camera Vicon motion capture suite, SR Research and Tobii eye tracking equipment, NIRS, transcranial magnetic stimulation, an immersive virtual reality suite, a two-bedroom sleep laboratory, psychophysiological assessment tools (e.g. GSR, EEG, EMG), and wet labs for taking human samples. Our popular Psychology courses cater to a vibrant student community of nearly 1000 undergraduate students and nearly 200 postgraduate students, across two undergraduate and five postgraduate programmes.The Department actively works with all academic staff to ensure teaching activity does not come at the expense of research time, and promotes engagement with sabbaticals to facilitate the development of grant submissions and collaborative projects.
Northumbria University’s Department of Psychology is seeking to appoint an ambitious HCPC accredited (or willing to work towards) Occupational Psychologist to contribute to our successful MSc programme, and whose research complements or builds upon our existing strengths. Within our Occupational and Organisational Psychology team, we have interest and expertise in bullying, careers and wellbeing research and consultancy. The departments current research themes are: Brain, Performance and Nutrition; Health and Wellbeing; Psychology and Communication Technologies; Cognition and Language; Perception, Evolution and Behaviour. The Department also plays a leading role in two university-wide multidisciplinary research themes: Integrated Health, and Digital Living.

The successful candidate will:
Contribute to the delivery of our BPS accredited MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology programme, undergraduate Business Psychology pathway and the development and delivery of a new distance learning version of the same programme (Stage 1 training)

  • Design, development and delivery of high quality modules that embed your expertise into research-led teaching
  • Delivery of high-quality academic outputs to strengthen a future REF submission for one or more of our research themes
  • Submission of competitive research and/or consultancy funding bids 
  • Supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD and Professional Doctorate students, as appropriate
  • Development of internal and external collaborations
  • Contribution to management and administration

You will be a Registered Occupational Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (or be willing to work towards). You will have a PhD (or Professional Doctorate) in Psychology or a related area, or be prepared to enrol on a PhD (or Professional Doctorate) within six months of joining the Department. You will have a high-quality publication or consultancy record and the clear potential to develop high-quality research.
 

You will be able to supervise Doctoral level qualifications which may include PhD, Professional Doctorate or BPS Stage Two Occupational Psychology Trainees. You will have a proven ability to deliver high quality research-led teaching within Occupational and Organisational Psychology. You will have subject expertise with specialist knowledge gained through research activity or consultancy.
