About the position

We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated candidate for a  three years Postdoc/Researcher position to optimise the use of PET/MRI in patients with prostate cancer.

The Postdoc/Researcher will be part of the MR Cancer Group at the Department of Circulation and Medical Imaging (ISB) working within the field of personalized cancer medicine. Our long-term objective is to improve cancer detection and treatment through advanced non-invasive imaging. For more information about the research group, please visit the following web page: http://www.ntnu.edu/isb/mr-cancer

This position is a fixed term, full time (100 %) position for three years starting from June 1st 2020.

The position reports to the Head of the MR Cancer Group, professor Tone F. Bathen (https://www.ntnu.edu/employees/tone.f.bathen)

The candidate will be working on a multicenter project aiming to improve the treatment of prostate cancer, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer type among men in Norway. Simultaneous PET/MRI facilitates the combination of PET imaging with the current clinical standard MRI. Combining these complementary techniques may lead to a higher sensitivity and specificity for detection of lymph node and distant metastases than either modality alone. The main aims of the project are (1) to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET/MRI for detection of pelvic lymph metastases in high risk prostate cancer, and (2) to evaluate detection rates, and investigate how PSMA PET/MRI impacts treatment decisions in prostate cancer patients with recurrent disease. Both studies will be performed with a prospective, multicenter design in close collaboration with hospitals in Trondheim, Tromsø and Bergen together with an interdisciplinary research team. Patient enrollment starts in March 2020. The position offers challenging and varied tasks in an environment characterised by active, committed and skilled employees, and the candidate is expected to take a central role in data analysis and publishing of the results.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Implementing and performing a clinical study
  • PET/MRI acquisition and analysis
  • Interaction with local, national and international interdisciplinary researchers
  • Data analysis; writing, publishing and communication of results to peers, users and the general public.

Qualification requirements

  • PhD in medicine, medical technology, or image analysis
  • Experience from PET and/or MRI (image acquisition, reading or analysis)
  • Capability to work efficiently both independently and in teams
  • Experience in medical statistics
  • Strong record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • The position requires strong English oral and writing skills

Desired qualifications

  • Experience with participation in clinical, multicenter studies
  • Being able to communicate in a Scandinavian language
  • Basic programming skills

Personal characteristics

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong writing skills, capable of synthesizing and expressing complex ideas clearly
  • Team player, collaborative, and respectful; values the inputs and opinions of others
  • Self-motivated, ambitious, resilient, resourceful, result-oriented, and independent

In the evaluation of which candidate is best qualified, emphasis will be placed on education, experience and personal suitability, as well as motivation, in terms of the qualification requirements specified in the advertisement
