Westminster Business School

The Westminster Business School was established in 1997 and is located in Central London at the University’s Marylebone Campus. We have nearly 5,000 students including 1,000 postgraduates.  We have 220 FTE academic staff and a further 150 visiting lecturers. Our annual turnover is in excess of £45 million making us one of the largest University business schools in the UK.  

Our vision is to gain worldwide recognition as an internationally-facing, professional and research engaged business school. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) rated 85% of Westminster Business School (WBS) research to be of an internationally recognised (2*) standard, or higher. In addition, 40% of our output and impact is rated at 3* or 4* indicating internationally excellent and world leading research quality. Our strategic plan for 2018-23 aims to double our research income and increase our share of 3* and 4* publications to 70%.  

School of Management and Marketing

The School of Management and Marketing is one of four Schools within Westminster Business School and provides the focus for learning and teaching in the subject areas of Marketing, Strategy, Leadership, Management and Innovation.  

This is an important appointment for the School and provides the opportunity to establish, lead and develop our research capacity and income generation. Around a third of our staff are research-active currently, many publishing at 3* level or above (ABS).  

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful appointee will focus on contributing to strategic planning (3-5 years) in relation to research and knowledge transfer work. They will have specific responsibility for providing academic leadership in marketing and providing mentoring and support to early and mid-career researchers. They will have responsibility for leading international and high-quality research and for generating research income both independently and by driving a collegiate research culture. There is an expectation of significant income generation and successful project delivery as well as extending our external networks. The appointee will enhance our national and international reputation for marketing and will be encouraged to set up a Research Centre in Marketing.

Attributes, Skills and Personal Qualities: 

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to guide, lead and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners. They will have excellent communications skills with the ability to communicate and motivate students and colleagues at all levels. They will set ambitious but realistic goals and have the ability to see and contribute to the big picture, showing the way forward so others understand what they must do to align their efforts to university-wide goals. Finally, they will have proven ability to lead broader management processes, for example business and programme planning and departmental strategic planning.
