Residential Facilities Assistant (Porter)

Job number    SUPP106117
Division/School
  Residential Facilities
Contract type    Open Ended
Working pattern    Part time
Salary     £18,009 - £19,133 pro rata
Closing date for applications     26-Feb-2020

The University of Bristol has several part-time open-ended posts available within our Residential Facilities Department. These roles are for Assistant Weekend Porters and will operate on a ‘roving’ basis to offer out-of-hours support to student residents across our three Residential Villages, spanning Clifton, Stoke Bishop and The City Centre.

Residential Facilities staff, who sit within the wider Campus Division, are committed to providing a first-class service to student residents, so it is essential that you are able to get on well with students who are often away from home for the first time and may be experiencing difficulties.

In order to continue to offer an outstanding student experience, we are looking for reliable, responsible and hardworking people to help facilitate the running of our Student Support Centres, which offer round-the-clock assistance to student visitors. The role will cover duties such as granting access to residents who are locked out of their rooms, escalating facility related issues and repair requests, and distributing post. To ensure timely responses to any issues that arise across University of Bristol’s expansive property portfolio, use of the Residential Facilities Porter Vehicle is a key aspect of this role. It is therefore essential that applicants hold a full, clean UK driver’s licence.

Previous experience of customer service/porter roles is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. We’re interested in your personality, whether you are approachable and if you are a team player. We want you to take pride in your work and show initiative and enthusiasm. You'll also need a good level of fitness, a reasonable level of literacy and good communication skills.

These roles will operate on a two out of seven day working pattern, on Saturdays and/or Sundays between 7am -7pm. The hours are variable, and may include weekdays and bank holidays, so the ideal candidate will be flexible.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact the Deputy Residential Facilities Coordinator for the Student Support Centres, Stuart Fennell, at stuart.fennell@bristol.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Wednesday 26th February 2020.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
