The Venues & Events department is seeking a commercially focused Venues & Events Manager on a 12-month fixed term (maternity cover) basis.  

This is an exciting full-time role, managing a team of 7, who are responsible for the hire of event space and group accommodation facilities across the University’s portfolio.   The team manage the customer journey from initial enquiry, right through to event management on the day of their event.  During the summer, the team increases to between 25 and 30 people as the busiest time of the year is between mid-July and early-September; when this role is responsible for being ‘on-call’ outside of normal working hours.  With this in mind - experience of managing a wide range of events is essential; as the Venues & Events team operate a variety of income generating activities such as conferences, weddings and private events, group accommodation, filming, lectures, music concerts, meetings and academic events. 

Operating across some of Bristol’s most iconic buildings; the successful candidate will be responsible for the operational management of the office and events run by the team.  Coupled with managing and developing a team of high performing professionals who deliver events across the University, the Venues & Events Manager is responsible for ensuring income is generated in order to achieve the annual revenue goal.  Managing budgets is a key element of this role, as the Venues & Events Manager is required to ensure that all opportunities are maximised to capture income, as well as ensuring costs are kept in line with budgets; therefore the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate their knowledge and experience of this skill. 

The Venues & Events Manager has a marketing budget, to be used strategically to ensure the ongoing promotion of the University’s facilities.   Working alongside the Client Relationship Manager on advertising for corporate events and groups, the Venues & Events Manager will ensure the appropriate spend of the marketing budget and return on investment of any paid advertising. 

This role reports to the Head of Venues & Events and is part of a commercial team including the Client Relationship Manager and Staff Accommodation Manager; within the Campus Division.  The successful candidate will deputise for the Head of Venues & Events when required. 

The successful candidate is required to hold a full UK driving license, as the ability to travel between venues is essential for day to day business, as well as fulfilling any on-call obligations.  Some out of hours and weekend work is required for this role, to fulfil the obligations of a 7-day operation.
