At TU Dresden, “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Institute of Logistics and Aviation, the Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics offers as soon as possible a project position as

Research Associate
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

for an initial period of 15 months until 30.06.2021. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.

Tasks: You will be responsible for subtasks in third-party funded research projects which comprise analysis, modelling and optimisation of processes in the air transport system. Your research will be focused on efficient ground operations of aircraft, taking into account delay situations and their complex dependencies in the airport environment and air traffic network. For this purpose, methods of operations research are to be further developed, data-driven procedures and machine learning methods are to be adopted and transferred into a simulative application context. Research may involve innovative aircraft (drones) with their correspondingly different operating processes (high automation). Your work will further include tasks in project organisation, such as reporting, preparation of project meetings, support in raising research funds and publication of research results in front of (inter-)national experts and in technical/scientific journals.

Requirements: university degree (Master or Diploma) in transport engineering, transport economics, industrial engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering or a similar field with a high affinity for process optimisation and programming. Knowledge in the field of aviation, operations research or data analysis should complement your profile. We expect a high degree of independence, personal initiative and goal-oriented work in our international team. You have a confident demeanour and strong communication skills in English (and at best also basic German). Experience in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Python) and/or in working with different software tools for process analysis and optimisation (GAMS, CPLEX, SPSS, MATLAB, etc.) is desired. Due to your pronounced interest for scientific issues in the field of air traffic, we offer you the opportunity to design solutions for future aviation systems and the possibility to test them in an application-oriented environment with the support of our international team.

Applications from women are particularly welcome. The same applies to people with disabilities.

Please send your application with the usual documents by 16.03.2020 (stamped arrival date of the university central mail service applies) preferably via the SecureMail Portal of TU Dresden https://securemail.tu-dresden.de as a PDF document to: hartmut.fricke@tu-dresden.de or by mail to: TU Dresden, Fakultät Verkehrswissenschaften „Friedrich List“, Institut für Luftfahrt und Logistik, Professur für Technologie und Logistik des Luftverkehrs, Herrn Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hartmut Fricke, Helmholtzstr. 10, 01069 Dresden. Please submit copies only, as your application will not be returned to you. Expenses incurred in attending interviews cannot be reimbursed.
