About the role

Alumni are the largest stakeholder group within the University of Melbourne Community and the Faculty of Arts alone has 80,000 graduates, most of whom are in Australia. Alumni relations seek to harness the knowledge, experiences, networks and financial support of its alumni to assist the University in achieving its goals.

Working under the direction of the Alumni and Industry Relations Manager, and in collaboration with the Associate Dean (Partnerships), the Alumni Relations Officer assists in the development and coordination of a range of engagement programs aimed at increasing the depth and diversity of relationships with the Faculty’s alumni, by contributing to the implementation of the Faculty’s partnership strategy and working with other key personnel in the University to align alumni outreach with fundraising priorities, recruitment and engagement activities.

The Alumni Relations Officer is responsible for building alumni participation and support across all areas of the Faculty as a key contributor to the implementation of a comprehensive alumni engagement plan. The role requires a high level of professionalism and maturity, including strong communication and personal interaction in representing the Faculty and its broad portfolio of disciplines. The Alumni Relations Officer will assist in developing alumni relationships with existing and future alumni and will be the first point of contact for Faculty alumni.

The Alumni Relations Officer will also assist in conducting research and contributing to development briefings and reports, as required. They will maintain alumni profiles and identify opportunities for volunteering.

They will also provide assistance with other specialised tasks and specific projects.

About you

The ideal incumbent will have equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, an understanding of the principles and current best practice in building relationships with key stakeholders and fundraising, preferably in an education environment, have highly developed oral and written skills with a demonstrated ability to produce effective written material including correspondence, reports, proposals and promotional materials and a confident capacity to speak in public. Have the ability to carry out broad research on individuals, corporations and foundations, using a variety of research tools including internet, library and database sources, being mindful of privacy laws on the collection of personal information. Have demonstrated capacity to manage a number of concurrent projects in a busy environment.
