About the team

Working within the Chemical Biology laboratory within the School of Molecular Sciences, you will be reporting to Associate Professor Keith Stubbs. The laboratory is comprised of a mix of synthetic organic chemists and protein biochemists, forming a multi-disciplinary team environment. In close collaboration you will also work with the Plant Biological Chemistry laboratory led by Associate Professor Joshua Mylne. This laboratory is comprised of a mix of protein biochemists, geneticists and bioinformaticians. Overall you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team environment undertaking a diverse range of research projects.

About the opportunity

In this position you will undertake innovative laboratory-based research to synthesise compounds that have been identified as important molecules towards new and novel herbicide targets. You will use chemical (e.g. synthesis, characterisation) approaches to further our understanding as well as test these molecules. You will also work closely with members of both laboratories to evaluate the compounds for their potency using novel enzyme assays and plant based testing.

The successful appointee will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas along the lines of the research interests of the groups, and to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary environment of the laboratories and the School of Molecular Sciences.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Experience in chemical synthesis of small organic molecules for use in biological studies
  • Experience in characterisation of organic molecules using various techniques (NMR, MS, IR, X-ray)

About you
