The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for an innovative Research Fellow to work with a talented team of researchers in the field of approximate data structures for streamed data.

You will work on an Australian Research Council Discovery Project contributing your research in approximate data structures for streamed data, in particular on low-memory devices. You will work closely with Professors Justin Zobel and Tony Wirth; their academic colleagues; and graduate researchers as the projects seeks to improve event recognition and dramatic speedup in analysis of streams comprising, for example, finance, health, transport, or urban data.

This exciting career role will support you, independently and as a member of the team, to work across all four pillars of an academic career and you will have responsibility to:

  • contribute to the teaching, training and mentoring of our students
  • engage with both internal and external partners
  • take on a service or leadership roles within the University

Your Profile

To be successful you will:

  • hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related field,
  • be able to demonstrate ability in conducting research in algorithm design
  • possess strong data-structure programming skills (e.g., in C/C++).

You will be versatile and passionate about research, and ready to play an active part in the life of the School of Computing and Information Systems, which at times may involve opportunities for supervision of master’s and PhD students and teaching. You will conduct independent research, leading to the preparation of teaching a subject and publication of research outcomes in conferences and journals.
