The School of Education has over 70 staff and looks to continue to honour our long history and excellent reputation. We are looking towards the future in appointing a new Professor and Deputy Head who has the drive to further develop and widen our global impact. We are looking to appoint a visionary academic who has wide experience in developing and delivering research, policy and impact, and who has a desire to build on our already excellent local and national reputation.

The School is part of the new Faculty of Education, Health and Human Sciences, which is developing new and exciting ways to develop ground-breaking, cross-professional and inter-disciplinary, approaches to research and practice that can have a major impact in addressing global challenges faced by society. The Faculty wants to appoint a Professor and Deputy Head (Research and Enterprise) 

The Professor and Deputy Head of School (Research & Enterprise) will work with Professor Paul Miller our new Head of School to lead the strategic development of multi-disciplinary research in the School, and work with the Faculty Director of Research and Enterprise & Director of the Institute for Lifecourse Development to lead the strategic development of research within the School and Faculty. They will also work closely with the six Centre Leads within the new Institute for Lifecourse Development. 

The Professor and Deputy Head of School (Research & Enterprise) will be have the appropriate research leadership experience and the appropriate track record in income generation. They will work closely with the Head of School to ensure the development and delivery of a clear research strategy, and a clear strategy for growing the School’s income and developing the research skills and capacity of staff.

Accordingly, candidates wishing to apply for the of Professor and Deputy Head of School (Research & Enterprise) should be experienced project leaders, leaders of successful research teams, and have experience of contributing to and/or leading REF submissions.

Currently, a number of our education programmes demonstrate excellence in terms of achievement, employability, partnerships, teacher standards, and good retention, but consistency is required across all areas and we have recently reviewed our portfolio with this in mind. Our new structure will be a catalyst for greater change, ensuring the means to provide consistently high-quality teaching in all areas and to strengthen research.
