Liverpool Logistics Offshore and Marine Research Institute (LOOM) is seeking to appoint an exceptional PDRA with expertise in the protection of marine environment from oil and ballast water discharges to join our exciting research project that has as its main objective to improve port based services for the discharge and treatment of ships effluents in the Atlantic Area. The project gathers partners and associated partners, representing ports, Port Reception Facilities (PRF) operators, public authorities, companies and universities from the whole Atlantic area. Their common goal is to motivate maritime communities to stop discharge at sea by designing attractive port services.

The research is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Interreg Atlantic Area, and offers a unique opportunity to conduct inter-disciplinary research with multi-national partners.

Successful applicant must have knowledge of the relevant marine environment protection regulations and the shipping industry. The applicant will have to analyse the market, find efficient technologies and work with stakeholders to prepare market uptake with relevant regulatory and financial solutions and incentives. In addition, the applicant should be able to perform environmental risk and impact assessments considering hydrocarbons and ballast waters discharges.

The applicant must also be capable of developing and maintaining research networks with the existing and potential partners. You will be encouraged to seek out and develop opportunities and proposals for future external funding.

This position will be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 11 months, with an expected start date as soon as possible.
