Veterinary Technician, Intensive Care Unit D

Job Description Summary

This Veterinary Nurse will provide high level patient care to critically ill animals. This is a weekend day position/36 hours.

Job Description

Veterinary Technician, Intensive Care Unit D has 5+ years of veterinary emergency and critical care experience.

Veterinary Technician ICU B has 2-3 years of veterinary emergency/critical care experience.

Veterinary Technician ICU C has 3-4 years of veterinary emergency/critical care experience.

Veterinary Technician ICU E has 10+ years of veterinary emergency/critical care experience.

The job duties are the same for all levels.

Hours:

Friday, Saturday, Sunday 8am-8pm
10% shift differential

Job Duties:

  • Provide high quality nursing care to hospitalized patients in the ICU
  • Perform all aspects of general and critical care nursing
  • Assist with prioritizing and organizing patient treatments and procedures
  • Update clinicians and staff on patient status and progression
  • Teach fourth year veterinary students and nursing students
  • Assist with training and mentoring of junior nursing staff

Qualifications:

  • Certified Veterinary Technician with a minimum of 3 years of nursing experience
  • Advanced patient assessment and nursing skills
  • Technical proficiency in venipuncture, cystocentesis, placement of invasive lines (venous, arterial and urinary catheters)
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Working conditions can be loud and overly crowded.

Physical effort required: Ability to lift 25-50 pounds consistently, with help. Frequent kneeling, crouching and bending. Standing for prolonged periods of time.
