The University of Bristol seeks to appoint an Academic Clinical Lecturer (ACL) to their successful Clinical Academic Training programme, commencing by March 31st 2020. This is a competition NIHR Clinical Lecturer post in the theme of Therapeutics or Clinical Pharmacology. The programme will provide up to four years post-doctoral training or until CCT is obtained (allowing for a 6 month post CCT grace period) for the postdoctoral development of a doctor-in-training who has recently completed a higher research degree (i.e. PhD, MD), providing salary support to allow the clinician to set aside time to develop academic skills and, for example, compete for an externally funded postdoctoral training fellowship, and contribute toward clinical training and achievement of CCT.

The ACL has flexibility to join established researchers working in three areas, depending on their interests in theme of Therapeutics or Clinical Pharmacology: 

• Cardionomics Research Group; investigating mechanisms of hypertension and transition to heart failure. Join 3 BHF funded PhD students and 3 clinical research fellows with expertise in microneurography to assess muscle sympathetic nerve activity and MRI
• Bristol Renal group focuses on the study of glomerular renal disease including diabetic nephropathy, through cell and molecular biology, in vivo experimental studies, platform biology, genetics and clinical trials. Further work links proteinuria and cardiovascular disease through studies of endothelial and endothelial glycocalyx dysfunction in other organs and the systemic vasculature in general.
• The Medicines and Prescribing research group within the Centre for Academic Primary Care has a strong interest in therapeutic complexity and polypharmacy in primary care, and conducts research in the areas of pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance and medicines optimisation. The ACL will benefit from the interdisciplinarity of these established research groups to investigate the mechanisms of young onset hypertension and help develop novel therapies in this area.
