Duties and responsibilities

  • The professor’s task is to engage in empirical research on the political and social processes of Russia, Eastern Europe and countries in the former Soviet space. This implies comparative research using a wide range of methods from the disciplines of political science, sociology and anthropology.
  • The professor is expected to engage in excellent research and teaching activities at all levels of higher education, as well as applying for, leading and implementing research and teaching development projects.
  • The professor is expected to supervise master and doctoral theses.
  • He/she is also responsible for popularising the discipline through public appearances and opinion statements; implementing the disciplinary knowledge for the benefit of Estonian society; applying and procuring research and development resources.

Required qualifications

PhD or an equivalent qualification. See also requirements for teaching and research staff.

Required experience

  • A record of internationally recognized research on the politics and societies of Russia, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet space in the volume corresponding to three doctoral theses.
  • Being currently active in research: the volume of research published over the last five years should correspond to at least 1.5 doctoral theses.
  • A record of obtaining grant funding and of successfully executing both research and teaching development grant projects.
  • A record of participation in international professional cooperation and in organisation of conferences.
  • A record of popularisation of the discipline and disseminating of research findings.
  • Teaching experience on at least two levels of higher education and successful supervision of theses.
