Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic invites excellent scientists to apply for a POSTDOC POSITION in the field of Cinema Studies

Description:

The postdoc's competence in the field of digital humanities will be used to analyze and visualize data sets on the film industry and film distribution. Postdoc will also partially participate in the creation of the data sets, her primary task being to coordinate the work of other researchers, ensure data compatibility and analyze the data.

The postdoc will be involved primarily in international comparative research into film distribution and screening during World War II. This is a project coordinated by the departments of Masaryk University (Department of Film and Audiovisual Culture, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University), Leuven University and Amsterdam University. Ensuring compatibility of data created by researchers in different countries, designing their analysis and visualization will be an important postdoc task. We are looking for researchers with excellent communication skills needed to deal with a large number of researchers from different countries. We expect experiences with the field of digital humanities, ability to work with adequate software tools and readiness to quickly improve qualification in this area.

In parallel with this key task, we expect the postdoc's participation on the upcoming research of film production in the city of Zlín and on the long-term project researching cinema culture in Brno. The postdoc will present her work at seminars and lectures organized by the Department of Film Studies and Audio-Visual Culture and at least one international workshop or conference. She will present her work on the above-mentioned WWII international project in the form of at least two studies in a peer-reviewed journal or in a collective monograph.

The successful candidate should:

  • be a researcher who has received a PhD or its equivalent within the last 7 years (on the date
    of employment commencing)
  • be a researcher who has worked at least two whole years in the last three years outside the territory
    of the Czech Republic in the field of research with a working time of at least 0.5 full-time equivalent, or who has been a PhD student (or equivalent) abroad
  • have a publishing record – in the last three years at least two publication outputs registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, Scopus or ERIH PLUS databases and at the same time publications such as “articles”, “books”, “book chapters”, “letters” and “reviews”
  • have experience with research projects (an advantage)
  • have excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multiple teams

  • CV including a summary of education and research experience, publication activity, participation in research projects, previous contracts and further information proving the above mentioned
  • a scanned copy of the PhD diploma or an official letter certifying submission of a doctoral thesis for thesis defence and the planned defence date
