Job Description Summary

The Research Project Manager and Periodontics Programs Support manages, oversees and administers the daily operation of the laboratory, administrative office of the Vice Dean and programs in support of assigned project management involving research, the DScD program, courses, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and procedures at Penn/EHRS/NIH/IACUC/OIP and various other programs that support Penn Dental Medicine's goals and vision.

Job Description

Responsible for day-to-day management of complex projects conducted with collaborators both internal and external to Penn. With mentoring from the Principal Investigator, the Research Project Manager will take leadership role in developing study protocols, writing grants, managing the detailed operations of projects, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, cultivating close relationships with community partner organizations, and drafting/editing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journal. He/she will help develop the team's research strategy and will have ample opportunities to lead projects and co-author papers. Will be required to ensure that studies/research are conducted safely and according to protocol, provide supervision to educators and teams conducting the study/interventions and collaborates with peers from other Universities and funding agencies. Will also be responsible for coordinating grant applications and interacts with funding administrators and the University Business Office. Provides significant contributions to presentations and manuscripts, including multiple drafts for review and dissemination. Plays a primary role in other dissemination activities related to project findings.

  • Manages complex project/program activities and implements protocols; develops, implements and manages work plans and time-frames in order to ensure project goals are met within required timeframes. Communicates project/program activities to ensure clear, coordinated project related communications.
  • Supervises assigned laboratory and or support personnel; delegate and coordinates tasks based on developed plans, participate in ordering supplies and onboarding of lab personnel including visa applications and immigration/visa documents.
  • Provide technical leadership and consultation related to project/grant proposals/ manuscripts/animal protocol development, IACUC applications and revisions, IRB applications and revisions and advising those associated with projects and various initiatives to support Penn Dental Medicine.
  • Provide pre-award management of grant documents including proof reading and initial assessment, interaction with other researchers and institutions to facilitate grant processing, budget development and uploading of grant documents.  Post-award financial management of grants, including monitoring expenses and preparing budget reports.
  • Provide monthly reports and monthly projections for PIs.
  • Participate in management of the DScD program including maintaining a database, monitor student progression through the program and provide program guidelines and requirements to students. Communicate with research mentors, students, department chairs and program directors, admissions department and others on student applications, progress and theses. Provide reports to the program director on progress and collaborate effectively with various departments to ensure a positive experience for candidates and committee members.
  • Assist in the recruitment of department staff for research teams and various initiatives at Penn Dental Medicine including identifying potential applicants and managing recruitment process in partnership with HR through Workday and various University systems.
  • Participate in the management of didactic courses including organization and posting of teaching material, grading exams, preparing exams, communicating with students and faculty, maintaining course database.
  • Organize and maintain minutes of committee meetings. Provide executive support assistance and back-up to Dean's Executive Office and various departments as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
