Department of Economics

The Department of Economics (http://www.ln.edu.hk/econ/) is a multi-cultural community of academics dedicated to excellence in teaching and research.  Both of the two recent Research Assessment Exercises have rated Lingnan University’s Department of Economics among the top performers in research output in Hong Kong. Its undergraduate teaching is in the context of an inter-disciplinary social sciences programme, where students can opt for different discipline majors or interdisciplinary areas of interest. The Department also offers MPhil and PhD degrees in economics, as well as a taught programme of MSc in International Banking and Finance.

The Department invites applications from candidates specializing in any field of economics.

The appointee will

(i) teach courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels; (ii) provide services at Departmental, Faculty and/or University level; and (iii) perform certain administration duties (such as serving as Major & Curriculum Co-ordinator, Undergraduate Advisor & others) as assigned by the Head of the Department. The appointee will normally teach 24 hours per academic year and will perform other administrative and teaching duties as assigned by the Head of the Department.

General Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in economics or relevant discipline.  Applicants should have at least 6 years’ relevant teaching experience and are expected to provide evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to contribute to the scholarly activities of the department.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years.
