The School is one of the largest and most successful Schools of Modern Languages in the UK bringing together research in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hispanic Studies, Italian, Japanese and Russian Studies. It is consistently ranked in the top five in national league tables, such as the Complete University Guide. The School's reach spans Europe, the Arab world, Russophone Eurasia, Hispanic America, and East Asia, and their mutual socio-cultural, intellectual and linguistic relations. The School's administrative team is led by the School Manager, who has overarching responsibility for the Learning and Teaching team (via the Learning and Teaching Manager), Operations, and local finance and research management. The School Manager plays a key role as part of the School's leadership team to deliver School and University strategy. The School Manager role requires an excellent all-rounder with the ability to:

  • Work at a strategic level but with an operational focus to support the development and implementation of department strategy in learning and teaching and research. Lead and manage the departmental professional services team both in business as usual and also in ensuring responsiveness to change, maximising administrative capacity to deliver departmental strategy. Act as a key channel of communication between academic staff and professional services staff, both within the department and across all academic, College and other professional services departments.
