The Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (Stanford PACS) is a research center that develops and shares knowledge to improve philanthropy, strengthen civil society and effect social change. Stanford PACS connects students, scholars and practitioners and publishes the preeminent journal Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR).

Professor Paul Brest is a Faculty Director and the Principal Investigator of the Effective Philanthropy Learning Initiative which is co-led by Erinn Andrews. EPLI is a key research program at Stanford PACS. It conducts applied research to better understand high net worth (HNW) donors’ philanthropic interests, motivations, and behaviors. EPLI’s guiding question is How might we help HNW donors increase their philanthropic impact? An interdisciplinary research initiative working at the intersection of strategic philanthropy, the behavioral sciences, and design thinking, EPLI aims to improve the knowledge of donors—and of intermediaries providing donor education and advisory services—so they can make more informed, outcome-focused decisions, thereby increasing their philanthropic impact. The EPLI team is seeking a fellow with excellent analytical and organizational capabilities and outstanding academic credentials to support its research on donor behavior by:

turning the content of EPLI resources into a digital format
developing interactive web interfaces to consume content from the resources

We are looking for candidates who have experience with web-based technologies, media, and UX/UI. The person in this position will redesign/re-architect our website to incorporate new resources we’ve developed, turn static content into digital, interactive forms and formats, and explore ways to develop interactive, web-based mediums based on the content of our resources (videos, infographics, podcasts, etc.). An ideal candidate has fluency in a variety of computer programs and technologies and brings a creative mindset to the team.

This is an exciting time to be part of the EPLI team. Our mission is to help individual, major donors give more effectively. Within the last few months, we have released two new resources that form the basis of our strategic plan for the next two years. This fellow has the chance to help shape the public face of these resources and help increase the usability and adoption of these materials which would have a wide-reaching impact on the entire philanthropic sector.

This is a one year, fixed term, non-exempt 100% FTE position.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Prepare correspondence, documents and reports.
  • Maintain and file forms and documents, including consent forms and master subject logs.
  • Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed. Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments.
  • Prepare, distribute, administer and process questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Perform quantitative review of forms, tests, and other measurements for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare data for input into statistical databases by typing, editing, and organizing data.
  • Apply formulas and calculations to research data using basic statistical programs. Review and verify accuracy of database information and assist in making necessary corrections according to specific guidelines.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities.
  • Assist with post-study activities, as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Two year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, and operates foot and/or hand controls.
