Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Student Futures Placement Coordinator to join the Student Futures Team. This is a full time 12 month fixed term position, based mainly in our Craiglockhart campus.

Student Futures' vision is to ensure that each of our students leaves the University fully equipped to pursue their desired career and, whether a careers & skills development consultant, placement specialist, employer engagement or graduate recruitment consultant, this is the focus of each and every one of us.

Student Futures Placement team

Edinburgh Napier's skills, guidance, placements and employment support is highly regarded by both students and employers. Each School has dedicated placement staff to support them with relevant knowledge about the programmes in each School.

Our placements team offer invaluable support for students throughout the placement process, advertising work placements and summer internships to our students, inviting businesses on to campus to meet with them, offering 1:1 advice on CVs and covering letters, as well as organising workshops to help prepare students for their placement. The team, in partnership with academic colleagues, also support students throughout their placement and the transition back to University.

The role 

The School Placement Coordinator will work with new and existing employers to increase the number of placements. Duties will include creating and maintaining relationships with employers, partner institutions and promoting opportunities to students. The roleholder will also work closely with colleagues in academia and other professional service departments to ensure a coherent, efficient and transparent service for users.

In the context of delivering the University Strategy and Corporate Plan, the role aims to increase student access to placement opportunities and mobility with a view to improving graduate level employment.

Essential Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through experience in a similar role
  • Experience of working in an environment of high quality service delivery
  • Experience of working in a customer-focussed role
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to organise own workload
  • Ability to work to deadlines and to make independent decisions
  • Excellent telephone manner

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of working in delivery of placements in an academic environment.
  • Experience of organising events for service users.
  • Understanding of the creation and distribution of effective promotional materials in a variety of formats
  • A commitment to students, the quality of their experience, and to their development and success

Salary: GBP 26,715 - GBP 31,865 per annum (Grade 4)
