Job Title:  Director (Academic Personnel)

Job Description:

  • Reporting to Vice Provost of Academic Personnel, the Director oversees and is responsible for the smooth functioning of the Academic Personnel’s secretariat functions viz. University Promotion and Tenure Committee (UPTC), Mid-Term Advisory Report (MTAR), MTAR Committees.
  • Outreach to internal and external stakeholders, and ensure workshops are well-planned and carried out.  Examples of such workshops could include pre-tenure faculty workshops for Provost/Vice-Provost, best practices in Hiring workshops involving Deans and Heads across the University which will enhance their understanding of the expectations in hiring with regard to certain high visibility scholarships, networking session for the A*STAR Academia Pathways Programme for NSS (National Science Scholarship) PhD scholars by matching the needs of the departments with suitable applications
  • Responsible for the Education and Academic Staff Handbook domain, oversee its contents and reviews requests for changes.
  • Plan and monitor the master schedule for Visiting Committees (VCs) and International Advisory Panels (IAPs) across the University
  • Serve as a secretariat for the MAS Term Professorship in Economics and Finance, coordinate calls for nominations, and manage the appointments and budgeting relating to the Tan Chin Tuan (TCT), Lee Kong Chian (LKC), NUSS Chair Professorships
  • Serve as a secretariat to dean/director searches
  • Serve as a committee member at the University level to review staff (Executive and Administrative, and Non-Academic) applications for training sponsorship of external courses leading to formal    qualifications
  • Coordinate with MoE for Minister’s meetings with academics

Requirements :

  • Masters’ Degree, preferably PhD and at least eight years of professional experience in an academic or related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
  • Critical analysis and thinking skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality, professionalism and quality service
  • Excellent in writing and editing, with the ability  to write persuasively
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate diverse, complex tasks and information flow with faculty, administrators and staff.
