About the team
This position is located in the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Nedlands, Perth. You will working with a dedicated team of researchers in The Immunology and Transplantation Group, a world leader in transplantation research. The core priority of the research is in the investigation of tolerance and rejection in mouse models of kidney, heart, lung and liver transplantation.
About the opportunity
You will support and further refine existing mouse models of heart, kidney and liver transplantation. You will also be responsible to investigate the role of inflammation and tissue resident cells and identify specific components of the immune system that appear to influence the survival or rejection of transplanted organs in mice.
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- A bachelor degree in veterinary science, medicine, medical science or equivalent.
- Experience in microsurgery in mice or the ability to develop these skills.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills (written and verbal) including ability to exercise a high level of initiative.
- Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently when required.
- Understanding of the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 8th edition (2013)
About you
You will be an excellent communicator with a collegiate attitude. You will demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups both internally with your fellow colleagues and externally with other stakeholders. As an experienced microsurgeon in small animals, preferably in mice you will be a focused and driven researcher working in this technically demanding research initiative.
