About the team

The School of Psychological Science have been recognised internationally, with Psychology ranked in the top 50 in the QS World University and top 100 in the ARWU rankings. UWA has received the highest rating (5: well above world standards) for Psychology in each of the three rounds of the national Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluations: an achievement matched by only one other Australian university. These rankings reflect the quality of the staff in the School, our strong undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the School’s capacity to attract substantial research grant funding to support innovative research, and the high citation rates of our publications.

The School is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual who can build capacity in Cognitive Neuroscience, whilst bringing together our diverse expertise in neuroscience techniques. School academics working in the area of Cognitive Neuroscience employ a multitude of techniques, including EEG, NIRS, and tDCS neurostimulation. We use these methods to understand the brain mechanisms that underpin a wide variety of cognitive capabilities, ranging from fundamental aspects of memory and perception to attentional control, emotion regulation, and sleep. Some of this work focusses on the neurocognitive basis of individual differences in such capabilities, and some investigates the neurocognitive basis of the changes in these capabilities across the lifespan. Such research contributes both to the development of theory and, where appropriate, to the translation of the resulting advances in knowledge and understanding of neurocognitive mechanisms into applications that deliver benefits to the community.

About the opportunity

You will have responsibility for building on the School’s research and training strengths in Cognitive Neuroscience. You will be expected to play a significant part in further developing the international research reputation of the School in the Cognitive Neuroscience domain, by attracting external research funds, establishing collaborations with researchers within and outside the School, and publishing influential papers. You will also play a key role in the development of research-led teaching in Cognitive Neuroscience, and related discipline areas, potentially including the training of evidence-based applications of advancing knowledge in this field. Teaching responsibilities will include the delivery of lectures and seminars in Cognitive Neuroscience, or cognate areas, to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and the supervision of honours and postgraduate research students.

About you

To be considered for this position, you will hold a PhD in Psychology, preferably in an area relevant to Cognitive Neuroscience. You will possess a strong track record in Cognitive Neuroscience research with publication outputs in high quality journals, and student supervision experience. You will have a collegiate attitude and commitment to working with diverse groups both internally with university colleagues and externally with industry and government and/or advisory groups.
