Research Fellow - Faculty of Engineering and Environment
The Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering at Northumbria University has strength in materials and devices innovations for sustainable energy as evidenced by recent awards from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to create the North East Centre for Energy Materials(NECEM) and the Centre for Doctoral Training in Renewable Energy Northeast Universities (ReNU). Part of this strength is based on expertise in thin film photovoltaic devices and we are now seeking an excellent post-doctoral Research Fellow to work on interfacial engineering of antimony-based absorber materials for photovoltaic applications.
The role is to support a recently awarded NECEM Flex Fund to work in collaboration with Newcastle and Liverpool Universities, for driving research for Sb2Se3solar cells by focusing on interfaces to improve device efficiencies. The role is laboratory-based and requires outstanding problem solving skills typically attained in an experimental physics/chemistry/engineering or equivalent, relevant doctoral project. In addition to performing high quality laboratory experiments, the successful candidate will have experience of disseminating research outcomes at national/international conferences and in prestigious academic journals. The successful candidate will join the Northumbria University Photovoltaics research group and will be expected to support the group’s activities.
In addition to a strong track record of academic achievement demonstrated by excellent publications, applicants should be have experience of thin film solar cell fabrication and characterisation. As the role will also involve working with collaborators, individuals will be expected to work both independently and in collaboration, therefore applicants should have excellent communication skills as well as be a team player.
