Postdoctoral Research Associate in Physics
Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Associates in Materials Physics focussed on the growth and characterisation of two-dimensional materials and their derivatives with a particular emphasis on their use as energy materials. The research project forms part of the activities of the North East Centre for Energy Materials, a major EPSRC-funded initiative which brings together researchers working in energy materials at the Universities of Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria. This particular project is hosted within the Centre for Materials Physics at Durham and the lead is Dr. Michael Hunt.
The successful applicant will be expected work as part of an internationally recognized centre dedicated to the discovery, characterisation, evaluation and application of energy materials. The successful candidates will focus on: (i) the growth of two-dimensional materials by chemical vapour deposition and their characterisation by surface sensitive techniques (ii) the application of two-dimensional materials and their derivatives for future energy storage and capture devices. Considerable flexibility and independence are possible, and we particularly encourage exploration and collaboration, both within NECEM and externally.
The successful applicants will be expected to plan and carry out high-quality both individual and collaborative experimental research and to write up such research for publication in high-quality scientific journals. In addition, the applicants will be expected to work effectively with postgraduate students on related projects, thereby contributing to their development, and to contribute to the smooth running of the group. The applicants will be expected to contribute to regular group meetings through presentations of, e.g., technical aspects of their research as well as general presentations, and to present their research at conferences and workshops.
