The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is looking for hourly paid lecturers in Computer Science to supplement its full time staff.
The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing at Coventry University is one of the largest in the UK and is nationally and internationally renowned as a centre of innovation for its teaching, learning and research of computing subject areas. The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics is one of three schools within the faculty and has a very successful suite of courses supported by excellent staff, teaching facilities and laboratories. The school is responsible for the development of a thriving portfolio of teaching and research. We offer undergraduate degrees in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Computing, Ethical Hacking and Cybersecurity, Games Technology and Multimedia Computing. Our postgraduate courses include Data Science and Computational Intelligence, Computer Science, Network and Forensic Computing.
We are interested in supplementing the computer science team primarily in the areas of:
- Software Engineering
- App Development
- Web technologies
- Cyber Security
- Games and Multimedia
- Project supervision
Other areas related to the teaching in the school will also be considered.
The position is part time and temporary, initially for the period Jan to May 2020, although it may be possible for the posts to extend beyond that period. Positions will be for a maximum of 200 hours per year.
The exact nature of the position will depend on the level that you are appointed at, but will include activities such as -
- Helping with labs
- Helping with tutorial sessions
- Delivering lectures
- Supervising project students
- Marking assessment
The hourly rate includes appropriate time for preparation and marking. Project supervision is paid at the specific rate of GBP 400 per project and this rate includes the associated marking. More experienced applicants may be involved with the creation of teaching material and this activity is paid at the higher rates.
You will be responsible for the delivery and support of learning, teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will work closely with the course teams to help provide the high-quality learning environment our students expect.
Applicants should hold a post-graduate degree in Computer Science or a related subject. Applicants with substantial professional experience with professional qualifications and/or membership in a professional body will also be considered. Experience of working in higher education will be very useful and good programming skills are required.
