The University of Waikato Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College, China

The University of Waikato has established a Joint Institute with Zhejiang University City College in Hangzhou, China. Students have the opportunity to graduate with one of three degrees offered there by the University of Waikato.

The University is seeking a staff member to join the Bachelor of Design team to contribute to the programme, particularly knowledgeable in the areas related to: visual communication design, design methodology, user centred design, user experience design (UXD), product-service ecologies and systems thinking and design.

The position is based in China and applications are sought from suitably qualified people to contribute to the teaching and administrative requirements of the programmes taught at the Joint Institute by our School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.

To be successful in the role you will have demonstrated experience teaching to large and small groups of students, in-depth knowledge of the design discipline with an emphasis upon current design theory and practice, and experience working in an international organisation. Knowledge of Chinese culture, experience of teaching across cultures and the ability to work with students for whom English is not their first language are all important requirements. A relevant Masters degree is essential and a PhD would be advantageous.

Salary will be in the range of CNY320,000 to CNY455,000 per annum, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.

The appointment will start within the coming months. Prior to commencement in China, training will be provided in Hamilton. Applicants must be eligible to receive a Foreign Expert Certificate (FEC) to meet the criteria for teaching staff at the Institute.
