The Australian National University (ANU) has been awarded an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship under the direction of Professor Quentin Grafton that will be located within the Crawford School of Public Policy.

The project’s overarching aim is to develop pioneering ways of valuing water and supporting resilient decision-making for water justice with a particular focus on Indigenous Peoples, especially Australia’s First Peoples.

The project is connected to the ANU Water Justice Hub and has several objectives which include, but are not limited to; enabling evidence-based policies, create an enduring legacy of scholars with world-leading expertise in water valuation and resilient decision-making in relation to water. The planned field sites are located in NSW and the Fitzroy Basin, Western Australia.

Position overview:

The Crawford School of Public Policy is seeking to appoint, an outstanding early-career academic (with a PhD or who is about to graduate with a PhD) to contribute to the Laureate project. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in the broadly defined discipline of socio-economics and a willingness to be part of a dynamic, collaborative, interdisciplinary team working towards water justice. The ideal applicant will have excellent capacity for collaborative research and outreach, teamed with a strong interest in working with Indigenous Australians, and will have a strong desire to ensure their research has public policy impact. A demonstrated expertise or willingness to work in water-related research and with communities (especially Australia’s First Peoples) will be well regarded. The start date for the position is negotiable but is intended to be in the first half of 2020.
