The University of Hong Kong

The University of Hong Kong is a globally renowned university dedicated to achieving impact through internationalization, innovation and interdisciplinarity, as well as engagement with the rest of China. The University has a comprehensive range of study programmes and research disciplines spread across 10 faculties and over 140 academic departments and institutes/centres. Its 28,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 2,000 plus academic staff are recruited from around the world. English is the medium of instruction.

The Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, is the oldest law faculty in Hong Kong and plays a leading role throughout Asia. It offers an extremely broad range of undergraduate and graduate programmes, including LL.B., P.C.LL., LL.M., M.C.L., J.D., M.Phil., Ph.D., and S.J.D. programmes and a variety of specialized degrees in areas including corporate and financial law, compliance and regulation, arbitration and dispute resolution, technology and intellectual property law, human rights, Chinese law, medical ethics and law. With the restoration of sovereignty over Hong Kong from Britain to China in 1997, the Faculty of Law occupies an enviable strategic position as the pre-eminent law school in the only common law jurisdiction in China. In addition to its traditional strengths, the Faculty is placing more emphasis on comparative legal studies, and on the provision of common law training to mainland Chinese scholars and students.

The Faculty comprises two academic departments, the Department of Law and the Department of Professional Legal Education, with the latter focused on offering the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) that is required for Hong Kong legal practice. With around 90 full-time members drawn from about 17 jurisdictions worldwide and over 2300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the Faculty boasts a highly diverse and vibrant research culture and environment.
