We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer / Reader in Medical Sciences with research interests in the broad area of cell and molecular approaches in the medical sciences. The candidate to be appointed will have a proven and growing track record at the appropriate level of driving discovery, innovation and understanding in the medical sciences, evidenced by a strong trajectory of published research and an ability to win research funding in this area.

The successful candidate will be based within the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/ims/), and applications are particularly welcome from candidates who have research interests in one of the following areas where we have internationally recognised research strengths; microbiology including host-pathogen interactions and the microbiome, immunology, including immunometabolism, regenerative medicine in musculo-skeletal science and arthritis, cardiovascular and metabolic health, developmental origins of human disease, genome biology and cancer, and translational neuroscience including neurodegeneration and neuro-regeneration. The successful appointee will have the capacity to synergise with existing areas of research interest across the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. The ability to evidence a record of interdisciplinary approaches and collaboration would be an advantage.

We wish to appoint an excellent scientist with an academic record of applying their research expertise to the medical sciences. The post is aimed at applicants who can demonstrate a significant and sustained record of research achievement within our areas of core strength that include neuroscience, microbiology, the microbiome and host-pathogen interactions,  immunology, cancer, metabolic health including cardio-vascular disease, regenerative medicine in musculo-skeletal science, cell and developmental biology, genome biology, cancer and translational neuroscience including neurodegeneration.

For appointments at Senior Lecturer and Reader level salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 8 salary scale (£52,559 - £59,135 per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience
