Student Wellbeing Services are looking for a highly motivated and organised person for the role of Student Transition Officer. This is a fixed-term maternity cover post until January 2021. You should have experience of working in a support or advisory capacity, ideally in Higher Education (HE), and an understanding of student support within Higher Education. The post will involve working with students facing difficult challenges and candidates should have the emotional resilience to manage complex and potentially emotional situations.

You will contribute to the development and co-ordination of a broad package of pre- and post-entry student support programmes, events and services. Support will be focused on improving the transition to HE, the student experience and the retention of students from specific Widening Participation (WP) target groups including disabled students, students from low income families and neighbourhoods with low participation in HE.  You will need the ability to work independently as well as the skills to collaborate with colleagues to develop and design effective schemes and services. You will need good planning and analytical skills as well as excellent organisation skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.  Experience coordinating mentoring schemes would be a significant advantage.  You will need to be able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people including students, staff, parents, external organisations and colleagues within Student and Education Services.  Knowledge and understanding of disability and in particular autistic spectrum disorders and mental health difficulties would be an advantage.  You will be actively involved in conducting evaluation to inform service development, delivering a variety of programmes, presentations and training events as well as providing advisory support for students.  Occasionally working out of normal office hours including evening and weekends will be required.

This is a full time, fixed term role until January 2021.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
