Overview:

Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK’s leading research-focused universities and a member of the Russell Group with an outstanding reputation in the humanities and social sciences.

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film is looking to appoint to a Lecturer in Russian, to deliver teaching and assessment across undergraduate and, as appropriate, taught postgraduate programmes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop his/her own teaching and research agenda in the field of Russian Studies (for details see below). Duties will include research and publication, convening and teaching undergraduate modules, in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures and also in the Department of Comparative Literature and Culture, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, designing new modules at UG and PGT level, (co)-supervising PhD students, co-supervision for UG research projects and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures. You will be able to develop new modules, and adapt existing ones, in line with your specific research strengths. The modules you will teach should include Russian Literature of the nineteenth century, and an aspect of comparative literature, such as fairy tales. We would especially welcome applications from researchers whose work traces connections between Russia and non-European cultures.

You will hold a PhD in Russian studies or have a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communication skills are also essential. Evidence of high quality research and publications in renowned journals is also expected.

The post is full time and permanent from 1 September 2020. Starting salary will be £42,433 - £44,807 per annum. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
