Overview

ECU has been at the forefront of teacher education for over 100 years and is one of the largest Schools of Education in Australia. The School of Education and Kurongkurl Katitjin as seeking to appoint an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in a continuing position who will contribute to the ECU initial teacher education program and undertake research as well as service.We are seeking an experienced, creative, and innovative Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander academic to provide leadership in Aboriginal education in the School of Education in partnership with Kurongkurl Katitjin. The applicant would have demonstrated capacity to provide teaching leadership in Aboriginal education and research and have experience in Primary or Early Childhood or Secondary settings. This position will be based across the Mount Lawley and Joondalup campus of ECU. ECU is influential in educational policy and classroom practice at the local, national and international levels and has national standing in the preparation of teachers as well as post-graduate courses in teacher education.

The Role

This is a joint appointment between the School of Education (0.6) and Kurongkurl Katitjin (0.4). The role within the School of Education will primarily be in post-graduate teaching, leadership and research. The role within Kurongkurl Katitjin will primarily have a teaching and learning focus with core units in ECU’s Initial Teacher Education courses.

The key responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to:

  • Teaching and coordinating units in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching courses with a specific focus on Aboriginal Education.
  • Developing and contributing to course curriculum at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Developing and contributing to post graduate curriculum specifically international markets in innovative areas with a focus on Aboriginal Education
  • Supervision of higher degree by research students
  • Producing recognised research outputs and obtaining research grants
  • Strategic and proactive engagement with industry, the profession and the community.

You will need to demonstrate:

  • Expertise in an identified field and general classroom experience in Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary education.
  • Strong pedagogical approach, experience and expertise in teaching identified field (Learning Area).
  • Ability to collaborate and work in teams is essential.

Benefits & Remuneration

This full time, ongoing position attracts a remuneration of $120,961 - $140,828 (Level C) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
