The Senior Health Economist is based at Adelaide Health Technology Assessment (AHTA), a nationally and internationally renowned research centre within the School of Public Health, in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. AHTA conduct primary and secondary research to support best practice in the evaluation of health interventions, and hold large contracts with the Australian Government Department of Health.
Working under limited supervision, as the Senior Health Economist you will have responsibility for conducting economic evaluations of medical services. This can involve the production of clinical pathways in the assessment protocol, as well as the development of economic models and cost-effectiveness evaluations to complement a systematic literature review undertaken to determine the clinical effectiveness of the medical service. In this role, you will also critically appraise industry submissions to the Australian Government Department of Health to assess cost-effectiveness and projected financial impact in the Australian health system.
To be successful you will need
- Experience with the development and/or critique of economic evaluations and economic models.
- Capability with decision analytic models, Markov models or more complex economic models constructed in TreeAge, Data Pro or Excel software.
- Familiarity with the methods of health technology assessment and understanding of evidence-based medicine.
- Experience with the critical appraisal of trials and studies.
- Familiarity with the health system and delivery of health services in Australia, particularly the listing and prescribing of medical services and pharmaceuticals.
