The Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building (DAB) is a creative and vibrant faculty. The Faculty is known for impactful research, a strong focus on industry and global engagement and a distinct model of collaborative learning. The Faculty provides high quality, innovative programs of research, teaching and professional education to clients of diverse backgrounds, both nationally and internationally in a spectrum of related disciplines.

We are seeking a strong academic leader for the role of Head of School of Built Environment.

About the Role

As the Head of the School of Built Environment you will provide academic leadership and management of the School in order to maintain and enhance its teaching, research and engagement, and for contributing to the strategic management of the Faculty.

In conjunction with the Associate Dean Teaching and Learning, you will lead the development of curriculum, and the delivery, maintenance and evaluation of all teaching and learning programs. As well, and in conjunction with the Associate Dean Research, you will lead the research and engagement outcomes with the aim of increasing high quality and impact research.

You will ensure continuing improvement of courses that enhance the Faculty's academic standards, the quality of its teaching, leads the school’s external engagement and its interaction with the domestic and international community of professions reflecting its disciplines. You will be responsible for ensuring that the welfare of coursework students and students and professionals enrolled in other programs is adequately monitored.

About You

As this is a key leadership role within the Faculty, you must have previous experience in effective academic leadership and management and a proven ability to develop and implement strategies which promote excellence and continuous improvement. Communication and negotiation skills are important as is your ability to interact effectively with a range of academic and professional staff in a complex environment.

 You will also have:

  • Demonstrated capacity to identify new opportunities and build collaborative relationships, within the Faculty, UTS, and externally
  • A broad understanding of the issues associated with course and student administration
  • Experience of collaborative research with industry and practice
  • Experience in developing policy to promote equity in some part of the university or other educational setting
  • Experience in leading and developing entrepreneurial activities to the benefit of the university or other educational setting.
  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area and professional development in areas relevant to management and leadership of the Faculty.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for three (3) years.
