Location: Mile End
Closing date: 01-Dec-2019

Overview:

The Department of Drama in the School of English and Drama in Queen Mary’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies to a fixed term post. We expect the colleague appointed to be able to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Drama through a variety of modes (e.g. in seminar-based and practice-based contexts).  We also expect the colleague to be developing a high-quality research programme in theatre and performance studies that will contribute effectively to the achievement of Drama's research aims. Applications from outstanding candidates working in any area of theatre and performance studies are invited but the School is particularly interested in extending the global reach of its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The successful candidate should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Drama, Theatre or Performance Studies and hold an appropriate track-record of high quality research in the field.  Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in large or small group settings is also an essential requirement.

The post is full time for a period of 32 months, starting from 1 January 2020. Starting salary will be on the Academic and Education Grade 5 scale at £42,433 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, occupational pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

This post is available as a result of the secondment of one of our current academic staff on a research fellowship to a non-UK HEI, which means that the successful candidate, provided they are in post on July 31 2020, will be returned amongst the Department’s Category A submitted staff in the Research Excellence Framework 2021. It is expected that the role will run for a period of 32 months. However, please note that if funding for this post should be withdrawn then this appointment may be ended early, subject to a notice period of one month.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Prof Caoimhe McAvinchey, Head of Drama, at c.mcavinchey@qmul.ac.uk
