About us

The School of Mathematical Science has an exceptionally strong research presence across the spectrum of areas within Pure and Applied Mathematics, and is currently organised into six research groups, namely: Algebra and Number Theory, Combinatorics, Complex Systems and Networks, Dynamical Systems and Statistical Physics, Geometry and Analysis and Probability and Applications. The School also has large and popular undergraduate and graduate programmes.

Following a period of significant growth, the School is comprised of around 70 academic staff, 16 research assistants and fellows and 13 members of professional services staff. The School is home to around 70 PhD students, and approximately 1,000 taught students.

Recently, £18M was invested in the School’s building transformation project to provide state-of-the-art research, teaching and study facilities for staff and students; the School moved into its newly refurbished building in September 2019.

About the role

The School is seeking to appoint a Research Manager with considerable experience in supporting research in a higher education institution or research body. You will provide, under the wider guidance and leadership of the School Manager, support for research activities across the School including facilitating grant applications, supporting academics in developing impact outcomes and contributing to the development and implementation of research strategy.  You will work closely with the Director of Research and Heads of Research Groups.  

You must have significant experience of working within an academic research environment and will have excellent analytical, financial management, communication and interpersonal skills.  A proven ability to prioritise your workload and to work independently is essential.  To apply for this post, you should be educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience with substantial experience in a similar or related role.

Pay & Benefits

The post is fixed-term for one year and is available as a result of maternity leave. The candidate will be expected to start in post on Monday 27 January or as soon as possible thereafter.

The post can either be full-time or part-time at 80% FTE.  The starting salary will be in the range £38,804 – £44,807 per annum (or £31,043 - £35,845 pro-rata at 80% FTE) inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (or pro-rata), USS pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
