Overview:

Applications are invited for a fixed term Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Research Assistant position on decision support for cyber security.

The responsibilities of the role are to develop methodologies, theories and algorithms that can help organizations and people make better security decisions. The work will build up on existing methodologies developed by the team at Queen Mary and Imperial College.

This post is part of the EPSRC project “Customized and Adaptive approach for Optimal

Cyber security Investment” a joint project between Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London. The successful candidate will be expected to interact with our colleagues at the Institute of Security Science and Technology at Imperial College.

The successful applicant at Research Assistant level must have an Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Electric/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience, or a related topic.

It’s essential to have knowledge in at least one of the following: optimization, game theory, machine learning, cyber security and theoretical computer science, and good understanding of cyber security and its challenging landscape. Experience of artificial intelligence and logic will be valuable to this research work.

The successful applicant at Postdoctoral Research Assistant level must have a PhD in Computer Science, Electric/Electronic Engineering or a related topic. It is essential to have experience in research in two of the following: optimization, game theory, machine learning, cyber security and theoretical computer science and a good understanding of cyber security and its challenging landscape. Candidates must also have experience with conducting research, understanding the research process and summarising findings.

A good understanding and experience of artificial intelligence and logic will be valuable to this research work.

This is a full time fixed term post for 19 months or until 31 July 2021 (whichever is the shorter) starting January 2020 or as soon as feasible after this date. For an appointment as a Research Assistant the starting salary will be in the range of £31,613 - £34,220.  For an appointment as a Postdoctoral Assistant the starting salary will be in the range of £34,220- £38,084 per annum inclusive of London allowance per annum inclusive of London allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan. Part time working or job share will be considered; please state this clearly on your application.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
