Post Information and Requirements

The School is seeking to appoint one Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Theoretical Physics working in the area “Gauge Theory, Geometry and Duality”. Applicants should have a strong research record within theoretical physics, in an area consonant with the current research in the Centre for Research in String Theory such as: perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of gauge and string theory, dualities in field theory and string theory, AdS/CFT and black hole physics. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise within the following areas and their interfaces: AdS/CFT correspondence, Conformal Field Theory, Supersymmetric gauge theories, and black hole physics in a string theory context.

The successful applicant will be expected to have a PhD in Theoretical Physics (or equivalent qualification/experience) and be particularly knowledgeable in the areas specified above. The applicant will also be required to work independently, have strong analytical skills and be an effective team player.

This position will provide the successful candidate with an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly active Research Centre focused on fertile and vibrant areas of theoretical physics. The position is full-time and fixed-term for a period of 2 years. The successful applicant is expected to start on 1st October 2020. The starting salary will be in the range of £31,613 - £38,084 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
