At TU Dresden, Faculty of Biology, Institute of Microbiology, the Chair of Microbial Diversity offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E13 TV-L)

at the earliest possible date. The temporary employment for 36 months entails 65 % of the full-time weekly hours and is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).

Tasks: This basic research project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) aims at elucidating the mechanism of sensing the trace element selenium, of its transport into the cell, and of selenium-dependent signal transduction (leading to differential selenium-dependent gene expression) of strictly anaerobic methanogenic model organisms. To this end, genetic, biochemical, and molecular methods will be employed. The chair is superbly equipped for anaerobic lab work. Requirements: university degree (Master or Diploma or comparable degree) in Biology or related disciplines with a clear emphasis of Microbiology and/or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. We seek a highly motivated scientist proficient in microbiological, biochemical and molecular techniques and above-average commitment. Experience in working with strictly anaerobic microorganisms is highly appreciated.
