About the position

A two-year Postdoc position in Food Proteomics is available at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science (IBT). The current research fields at the Department includes Microbial Biotechnology, Synthetic Biology, Analysis and Control of Microbial Systems, Food Science, and Biopolymers and Biomaterials. Further information is available at http://www.ntnu.edu/biotech/research. The post doc candidate will be associated the research groups of Professor Per Bruheim https://www.ntnu.edu/employees/per.bruheim and Professor Turid Rustad https://www.ntnu.edu/employees/trustad.

The position is financed by an internal strategic initiative at IBT to strengthen the Food Proteomics research. The main objective of postdoctoral research fellowships is qualification for academic positions and research career development programs and supervision are offered as part of this fellowship.

The position reports to Professor Per Bruheim and Turid Rustad.

Main duties and responsibilities

The post doc will work with mass spectrometry (MS) based Proteomics on food related topics; thus, complementing existing research projects in the Food Science and Microbial Biotechnology research divisions with qualitative or quantitative proteomics. Current main projects focus on exploitation of rest raw materials and by-products and understanding processes taking place in food raw materials during processing and storage. In-depth characterization of protein/ peptide pool compositions and modifications is important to improve current processes and development of new processes/ products. In addition to method development and sample analyses, it is expected that a significant part of the work will be on data processing (e.g. data base searches, bioinformatics, multivariate analysis, protein/ peptide identifications, modifications in proteins and peptides due to processing). The MS work will be performed in the NV Mass Spectrometry lab (https://www.ntnu.edu/nv-mslab) currently equipped with six MS instruments and GC, UPLC, capillary UPLC, UPC2, capillary ion chromatography separation technologies and software for advanced processing of both low molecular weight analytes (Metabolomics), lipids (Lipidomics), 13C-label experimentation (Fluxomics) and protein/ peptides (Proteomics).

Qualification requirements

The applicant must hold a PhD in food science, analytical biochemistry, biotechnology or similar fields. Experience with using liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry instrumentation and, in particular, Proteomics work-flow is strongly preferred. Alternatively, applicants with a strong track record in protein/ peptide chemistry related to food can be evaluated. In either case, ability to work with large data sets including bioinformatics is highly desired. The applicant must document ability to work independently and in groups, and ability to publish scientific papers. Experience with supervision of students and writing project proposals is considered an advantage.

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in food science, analytical biochemistry, biotechnology or similar or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant

NTNU is committed to following evaluation criteria for research quality according to The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment - DORA.
