About the Job
There is an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to contribute to the translation of the research efforts of the Australian Research Centre for Interactive and Virtual Environments (IVE) and the School of Information Technology & Mathematical Sciences at UniSA. The Research Assistant will work on the project: “Extending the Narrative Visualisation to Child Protection”.
As part of the Integrated Law Enforcement (ILE) project between the Data-to-Decisions Cooperative Research Centre and UniSA, we have been exploring the issues faced by agents and other members of the law enforcement community during their investigations. Genix Ventures is currently commercialising the resulting technology and is collaborating with UniSA to develop further innovation and research capabilities.
The narrative visualisation system presents the evidence and facts of a case as a single, cohesive visual narrative. The system extracts and models the facts and information from an investigation as a narrative; encoding the people (who), their actions (what), where and when they took those actions, and—most importantly—why they took those actions. Using this model, we developed a set of innovative visualisation techniques that communicate the narrative to the end user. The resultant technology aims to reduce the time it takes for new users to understand an investigation; to highlight missing or updated information; and to result in faster and more consistent outcomes from an investigation.
This project seeks to apply the NV technology to the domain of child protection and will involve the following:
- Identifying the requirements of around child protection and establishing how the NV can be adapted to meet these requirements. This would involve requirements workshops with end users from the child protection domain in the target states and territories.
- Developing a concept demonstrator of the NV that addresses these requirements, and results in a working prototype.
- Using the prototype in real life scenarios so as to demonstrate the effectiveness of the NV technology in the target domain before seeking wider applicability of the developed technology.
Skills and Experience
To be successful you will hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and have industry development experience working with Unity applications, preferably with UX design and implementation experience.
You will have project management skills, the ability to work within a diverse team and highly developed communication and computer literacy skills to present results to stakeholders.
Skills and experience in systems design and engineering, systems integration, experimental design and result analysis is highly desirable.
