Job description

Further your career with Edinburgh Napier University

We are currently looking for a Professional Practice Tutor with experience of caring for acutely ill children and young people with a cancer diagnosis to join the Women, Children and Families Theme in the School of Health & Social Care on a fixed term basis during 2020. This post is specifically to deliver a short teaching contract in Malta (three days teaching plus outward and inward travel).

Edinburgh Napier University is one of the largest providers of nursing and midwifery education in Scotland. We have a unique provision as we are the only providers of all four fields of nursing education (adult, mental health, learning disabilities and child health) and midwifery at pre-registration level. We are an ambitious school with a clear vision; to have a positive impact on health and society. We are committed to growing our academic reputation and providing an unrivalled student experience.

The Role

As a Professional Practice Tutor, you will support delivery of a short term contract with Mater Dei Hospital (MDH) in Malta to deliver nursing education relating to chemotherapy treatment and care in children and young people.  MDH is a public teaching hospital providing acute care. The education will be delivered as continuing professional development for registered nurses working with this patient group but who are not qualified child health nurses. This is an exciting and innovative teaching opportunity involving three days of teaching plus an additional two days of travel. It is expected the teaching will be delivered in early-mid February 2020. The Professional Practice Tutor will co-teach with an experienced cancer care nurse educator from Edinburgh Napier University. We are seeking to employ a child health nurse with current clinical experience in paediatric chemotherapy delivery to complement the knowledge and expertise of the academic nurse educator.

You will deliver teaching and student centred learning underpinned by academic scholarship and professional practice, within this subject area. This will include a variety of teaching and learning approaches including lectures and small group learning in Malta.

What are we looking for?

You must demonstrate the following:

  • Current NMC registration as a child health nurse
  • Extensive experience of working as a child health nurse in the acute care of children and young people with cancer within the last five years.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of delivering chemotherapy to children and young people and effectively managing side effects and adverse events.
  • Knowledge of current evidence and best practice in paediatric oncology
  • Experience of teaching nursing staff and/or students in a clinical setting
  • You have a current passport with at least six months before expiry and renewal.

Desirable:

  • MSc in Advanced Practice
  • Registered Independent/Supplementary Prescriber (V300)
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
  • Previous experience of teaching in an academic setting.
