Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press launched its program in 2010 as a world-class publishing house founded on international best practices, excellence and innovation. HBKU Press strives to be a cornerstone of Qatar’s knowledge-based economy by providing a unique local and international platform for literature, literacy, scholarship, discovery and learning. Headquartered in Doha, Qatar, HBKU Press publishes Fiction and Non-Fiction titles for adults and for children, and academic and reference materials. HBKU Press aims to promote the love of reading and writing by helping to establish a vibrant scholarly and literary culture in Qatar and the Middle East.

The university seeks to appoint a new Head of Publishing who can manage and implement the editorial strategy and vision of the HBKU Press list and to work with authors in Qatar and internationally. He/she will also be responsible for managing books, editorial policies and procedures.

Duties include developing high-quality and commercially successful publishing list for the general reader encompassing print and digital, representing the HBKU Press at book fairs, conferences or panels, and coordinating with freelance advisors, editors and translators to ensure that all manuscripts/books are reviewed and edited to HBKU Press’s level standards and procedures.

Required Qualifications & Skills 

  • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field 
  • 8-10 years of editorial experience in publishing, ideally in a management position 
  • Outstanding knowledge, skills and experience in the field of international publishing and familiarity with processes
  • Interest in publishing trends, including digital media and cross platform publishing 
  • Exceptional writing and reading/critical/analytical skills
  • Ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely 
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
