About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia. Working under the broad direction of the Associate Head for Clinical Services and specifically within the anaesthesia unit across the Sydney School of Veterinary Sciences, the appointee will actively engage and collaborate in the development and delivery of teaching and assessment resources for students (including undergraduates, postgraduates and residents).  The role also delivers clinical services in veterinary anaesthesia and conducts research relevant to the field.

The position is based at the Camden (rural) campus but working with a discipline team across the two campuses. The school provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in veterinary and associated disciplines. The appointee will be actively engaged in the development and delivery of anaesthesia services at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals. The appointee will teach in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program and advance knowledge in veterinary anaesthesia through research and scholarly activities.

  • A veterinary degree that permits full registration within the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW
  • A specialist level qualification in Veterinary Anaesthesia allowing registration in NSW as a Specialist Veterinary Anaesthetist
  • A postgraduate qualification in veterinary anaesthesia or significant progression towards this
  • Experience in provision of clinical training

This position is within the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS) is an internationally renowned provider of education and research, ranked 1st Veterinary Science School in the Southern Hemisphere and 9th globally (QS rankings, 2019).

The School provides first class veterinary primary care and referral services across all major domesticated animal species to support high quality teaching and research that meets global accreditation standards. The University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals (UVTH) comprise the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney (UVTHS) located at the Camperdown campus, and an equine and small animal hospital, a wildlife, exotic, reptile and avian hospital and ambulatory livestock and equine services at the Camden campus (UVTHC). The School has established and advanced the standard for primary and specialty practice in Australia, through its 5000 plus graduates, continuing education and its clinical services, as the only veterinary school in the Southern Hemisphere to operate continuously since 1910. Furthermore, the SSVS is a leader in animal health and production research with accredited research laboratory and field facilities across Camperdown and Camden campuses. 

The School delivers an innovative 4-year graduate entry Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, with graduates eligible for registration as veterinary practitioners. This DVM degree program is tasked to graduate veterinarians with a global perspective who are evidence-based practitioners and life-long learners with clinical and research skills allowing them to contribute throughout their careers to animal health and welfare and to human health in a one health framework at local, national and global levels.
