In the framework of the Cluster of Excellence ct.qmat the Faculty of Physics, Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) at TU Dresden invites applications for the

Chair (W2) of Topological Photonics

to be filled at 1st July 2020.

We are looking for a scientist able to represent the field of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics in research and teaching. Your research should focus on the field of topological photonics. The professorship is embedded into the Cluster of Excellence „Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter - ct.qmat“ in which phenomena, materials, and applications of topological physics are investigated. If you can contribute to strengthening this active research area with a long-term perspective, e.g. via design, preparation, optical characterization and modelling of photonic structures with topological effects, you will fulfil a central criterion for being appointed. In addition to active research within ct.qmat, participations in other collaborative research activities is explicitly desired. We expect you to fulfil teaching duties within the Faculty of Physics. Your duties furthermore include participation in academic selfadministration and in academic boards.

To be eligible for the position, you need a doctorate in physics or a related discipline as well as a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements in research and teaching. We furthermore expect you to be familiar with acquiring third-party funding and to be experienced in project and group management. Special emphasis is placed on top-class publications, strong international contacts, as well as independently acquired and successfully conducted research projects. You should be able to give courses in both German and English. Immediate proficiency of the German language is not a prerequisite, but we expect you to acquire language skills sufficient to conduct teaching and administrative tasks in German within a reasonable period of time. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).

For further questions, please contact the head of the appointment committee, Prof. Dr. Karl Leo, phone +49 351 463-37533, e-mail karl.leo@tu-dresden.de.
