About the PhD

This project is in collaboration with the Water Corporation Western Australia and will research on Biologically Enhanced Primary Treatment (BEPT) to increase energy recovery in wastewater. To increase energy recovery more upfront carbon needs to be captured during primary sedimentation. This includes both solids and insoluble carbon. Whilst primary sedimentation technologies are well known, Biologically Enhanced Primary Treatment (BEPT) is a new technology that needs to be researched for municipal wastewater treatment in Western Australia. This technology is a key process in improved energy recovery and hence researching and trialling of this technology prior to full scale is paramount. The research will investigate a range of approaches to solving challenges around Biologically Enhanced Primary Treatment.

The successful applicant will receive a scholarship of $28,420 per year for 3.5 years (all Tax Free), tuition fee sponsorship value at $33,250 per year and overseas health cover if you are an international student.

Key Requirements

The successful applicant must possess either a Bachelor with First or Upper Second class Honours or a Master by Research Degree and have strong competencies in wastewater treatment.
